BASE DESCRIPTION

Hey, what’s up everyone? I’m Dark Barbarian and welcome back to another TH5 post.
In this post, we’re building a brand-new Town Hall 5 Hybrid Base – and just like my other hybrid base designs, this one will help you protect your loot while pushing trophies at the same time.
If you want to truly understand how this base works and why each building is placed the way it is, make sure to stick around for the Base Analysis. Don’t just copy the layout blindly – understanding the logic behind it will help you defend better and tweak it as needed.
Alright, let’s get into the Base Analysis!

As always, the Town Hall is placed right at the center of the base. That’s because, in hybrid bases, it’s important to protect your Town Hall since it holds a decent amount of loot and is worth one star in battle. Keeping it in the core makes it much harder for attackers to reach and helps improve your overall defense.

At Town Hall 5, your most important defenses are the Mortar, Wizard Tower, and Air Defense. So naturally, we’ve placed them inside the central compartment to keep them safe and active for as long as possible.

The Mortar is placed in a way that it covers a wide portion of the base. This helps deal with spam attacks like BARCH, G BARCH, and Mass Goblins by hitting groups of low-health troops before they can do too much damage.

Next is the Wizard Tower – this is the only splash damage defense at TH5 that can hit both air and ground troops. Its range overlaps with the Mortar and nearby defenses, giving it strong support coverage. It plays a key role in defending against grouped-up ground units and Balloon drops.

Then we’ve got the Air Defense, which is crucial at this Town Hall level. Its range covers a wide range of the base and it can take out about 90% of a Balloon’s health with a single shot. When you pair this with the Archer Towers, it becomes a beast against Mass Balloon strategies.
Now, some of you might be thinking – “What if someone uses Lightning Spells to take down the Air Defense?”
Well, here’s the thing – at TH5, attackers can only bring two Lightning Spells, and together they do around 480 damage. That’s not enough to destroy any major defense like the Air Defense or Wizard Tower.
So placing these defenses near the center is totally safe, and helps in keeping them active throughout the battle.

The Archer Towers are placed in such a way that their range covers nearly the whole base, ensuring you have full 360-degree protection against air and ground attacks.
The Cannons are spread across the base to provide solid coverage against ground troops and help create a balance between ground defense.
You might have noticed these Cannons placed outside the walls and wondered why it’s there.
Well, at TH5, we don’t get enough walls to cover everything – so placing these cannons outside isn’t a bad thing. In fact, it’s a tactical move.
As you move up in Town Hall levels, players often use this trick. When a Giant attack comes from that side, instead of heading straight to the base, the Giants are pulled toward the outside cannon first. This gives your other defenses more time to take them out before they reach the core.

Now, coming to the storages, I’ve tried placing the storages at a distance from one another, when we group the storages they are far more likely to get taken out altogether by opponents but when we place them away from one another the opponent has to take out the whole base in order to get all the loot, We’ve also placed the storages alternately, so that even if the opponent takes out this portion of the base, we don’t lose all of the storages of the same type of resource. For example, if we put all of the gold storages on this side of the base, the attacker can take almost all of your gold simply by taking out this portion of the base. And if we are losing loot, it is better to lose it in a balanced way rather than losing all of the loot of one kind of resource, so we arrange them alternately, much like our base.
Now coming to the placement of the traps, we have placed those spring traps there for taking out some giants when someone attacks from these sides.

and those bombs out there so that they can take out the wall breakers, which can potentially ruin attackers’ funnel as the troops wouldn’t be able to go inside the base and they’ll end up going for the outer trash buildings which will end up ruining the attack.
those air bombs are placed there, after observation of so many attacks on this base and they reduce the health of balloons which directly helps our air defense.

coming to the outer buildings, I’ve placed them alternatively, such as avoiding placing the same type of collectors close to one another. I see most people not putting enough thought into those outer buildings, so they end up placing the same type of collectors all together. These collectors become an easy target to attackers when placed together, so it’s important to spread them out to make it harder for opponents to take them out.
That’s it for the Base Analysis
One more thing, this base is good enough on its own but make sure you have something in your clan castle for the defense because at lower town halls, defensive clan castle troops are an integral part of the defense, so if you want to boost your success rate, I definitely recommend getting a baby dragon or some valks in your clan castle for defense. that’s it for this post.

BEST DEFENSIVE CLAN CASTLE TROOPS COMBINATIONS
Using clan castle troops for defending your base is highly recommended as they can put the attacker in trouble by distracting them. Even though the base alone is sufficient to stop most of the attacks used by Town Hall 5 attackers, using the clan castle can help a lot. At Town Hall 5 you can get Maximum of 15 housing space in your clan castle, here are some of my recommendations for CC troops combinations for defense at Town Hall 5 :-
- 1 Valkyrie + 1 Wizard + 3 Archers (Recommended)
- 1 Baby Dragon + 1 Wizards + 1 Archers
- 1 Witch + 3 Archers
- 3 Balloons
Since most people can’t get these troops from their clans, you can also use other troop combinations which are easily available like all wizards, all balloons or any other troop combination but I highly recommend you to have above-mentioned troops for the best defensive experience at Town Hall 5.
