Hey guys, I’m Dark barbarian, today we are making a town hall 5 hybrid base, the last time I uploaded a town hall 5 base was like a year ago, so I thought of doing an updated version for 2020, so a hybrid base is a base which has features of both trophy and farming, so it will help you in gaining trophies while saving your loot, I have a lot to discuss about this base on why it’s so good in the base analysis part of the blog, which will answer all your questions regarding this base
as you’ll understand why I’m placing certain buildings in certain places, so don’t forget to watch it as it will not only help you in understanding the base design, but also teach you the basics of base building which will help you in choosing a great base design as you move forward in the game, so I will see you guys after the speed build
first of all, the town hall is well protected in the center, which is one of the basic rules to keep in mind while making a hybrid base, as we want to protect that one star and the loot in it.
Now coming to the defenses
we do not have a lot of defenses at town hall 5, so I have strategically placed the defenses in such a way that no side is left weaker to any kind of attack.
the most important defenses we have at town hall 5 are wizard tower, air defense, and the mortar.
so we have placed them in the central compartment as they require maximum protection, the archer towers are placed in these 3 corners of the base while the air defense is placed toward the remaining side, which means pretty much whole base is covered for air attacks, which makes this base so good against air attacks, now some of you might have a problem with this cannon on why it’s placed outside, well, its because at town hall 5 you don’t get enough walls to keep all the storages and defenses inside but placing this cannon outside isn’t necessarily a bad thing, on the contrary, I’d say its a good feature of this base.
As we move to higher town halls, most people use this feature on their bases because it kinda ruins attackers plan, for example, if an opponent wants to attack from this side, instead of going where the attacker wants giants to go, they go for the cannon as this is closest defenses they can get to, while they’ll be going for that cannon, all the defenses on this side will be targeting them, and after destroying the cannon, giants will go anywhere they want, what this does is, bring uncertainty to the attack, as opponents troops are not going where they want them to go, this can potentially lead to panic by the attacker and eventually a fail attack.
Now let’s take a look at the storage placement:- this is the part where most beginner base designers make mistakes, they think that in order to save the loot they should place all the storages in the center while defenses in the outer compartment, and I completely disagree with that, in my opinion, there should be a balance in placing storages, neither all the storages should be placed in the center nor they should be placed in the outer compartments, because if we put all the storages in the center and defenses in the outer compartment, what will happen is that the attacker can take out those outer defenses and after that, there will be nothing to stop the attacker from getting that loot, if one of their troops gets inside that central compartment, as storages can’t defend themselves, so placing all the storages in the center is definitely not a great idea,
Now coming to the other case where all the storages are placed in outer compartments and the defenses in the central compartment, in this case, you might see some gain in your trophies but you’ll have to say goodbye to your loot as they can easily be stolen by simplest attacks like BARCH,
so what’s the best placement combination, the best is the one we are using on this base where your most important defenses are placed in the center and the storages are placed away from each other at places where they are quite safe, and the not so important defenses are placed in the outer compartments, what this does is save your loot while giving your main defenses, protection and time, as the troops will get stuck on the storages as they have high hitpoints. we have also placed storages alternatively, so that if one side of the base gets destroyed we don’t lose that one type of storages fully, if the attacker wants gold they’ll have to takeout the whole base in order to get all your gold.
Now let’s take a look at the traps placement, we do not have a lot of traps at town hall 5, but whatever we had, I made sure we must utilize them fully, so the spring traps are placed in the central compartment, the reason for placing them here is because this is the path where attackers giants are most likely to pass from, so you will certainly take out some of the giants every single time as there is no way to avoid it. the air bombs are quite important at town hall 5 to stop balloon raids, so we have placed them in the core of the base close to the air defense and wizard tower.
The bombs outside are placed there for a reason, according to the observation of many attacks, most people are likely to start their attack from these two sides, so we have placed those bombs there, so that if attackers deploy their wall breakers, they’ll die out because of these bombs and the giants will get stuck in walls while our defenses will be targeting them. those bombs also help in countering spam attacks like BARCH, Mass goblins, etc.
Now coming to the outer buildings, you can place them according to your choice just don’t put the same type of collector all together otherwise opponents will steal loot from these easily,
This base is Anti Giant Wizard, Anti BARCH, Anti Giant Barb. Since the Air Defense in the base is placed in the center of the base, it is well protected to protect against air attacks like Balloon Parade and other air attacks. The traps are placed in the right spots as well which counters attacks like BARCH, Goblins and Giant wizard attacks. It can also defend against some newly upgraded Town hall 6 attackers with ease. So, overall in this base layout all the defensive buildings are well placed, hence, this base can easily defend against any Air attacking and Ground Attacking strategy at Town Hall 5.
One last important thing about this base or any town hall 5 base in general, is that this base will easily counter almost all town hall 5 strategies if the attacker doesn’t use clan castle troops, but if the opponent has cc troops you must also have some defensive troops in your clan castle for a fair match, because no matter what we do opponents can take out any town hall 5 base if they have high-level troops in their clan castle, so i recommend you to always have troops in your clan castle for defense, this will genuinely boost your win rate, recommended cc troops are All High-level balloons or High-level valkyrie, if you have these in your clan castle, they will last you a couple of matches easily as most opponents don’t know how to kill them, but if your clan can’t donate you those, just have anything, its better to have something than nothing,

BEST DEFENSIVE CLAN CASTLE TROOPS COMBINATIONS
Using clan castle troops for defending your base is highly recommended as they can put the attacker in trouble by distracting them. Even though the base alone is sufficient to stop most of the attacks used by Town Hall 5 attackers, using the clan castle can help a lot. At Town Hall 5 you can get Maximum of 15 housing space in your clan castle, here are some of my recommendations for CC troops combinations for defense at Town Hall 5 :-
- 1 Valkyrie + 1 Wizard + 3 Archers (Recommended)
- 1 Baby Dragon + 1 Wizards + 1 Archers
- 1 Witch + 3 Archers
- 3 Balloons
Since most people can’t get these troops from their clans, you can also use other troop combinations which are easily available like all wizards, all balloons or any other troop combination but i highly recommend you to have above-mentioned troops for best defensive experience at Town Hall 5.
